Mar 2018: Gulfsands (operator, 50%) was informed by Dijla Petroleum that the oil fields in Block 26 returned to production in early 2017 from up to 13 wells.at a rate of around 17.8 thousand bbls per day. Gulfsands has had no revenue since force majeure and implementation of EU sanctions in 2011. The company is will resume operational activities once sanctions are lifted.

Sep 2015: Soyuzneftegaz has ceased plans to explore for oil and gas off the coast because of the conflict. Soyuzneftegaz acquired a permit for Block 2 in December 2013. The company has also frozen its 2 onshore projects, Block 12 and Block 26, near the border with Turkey and Iraq.
Sep 2015: IS has seized the last major oil field under Syrian government control. The medium-sized Jazal field, NW of Palmyra, is now shut down. It lies close to Syria's main gas fields.

Apr 2013: European Union governments will ease an embargo on Syrian oil to allow for purchases of crude from the opposition. Syria's oil output has plummeted during the war by around 60% from March 2011 when the conflict began. Output was reported as around 153,000 bbls per day in October 2012.
