A City of secrets, … a Tower of lies
It is 1994. Benjamin and his girlfriend arrive in Singapore for a long-awaited break, but their plans are shattered when a speeding vehicle slams into their rental car and his girlfriend is left fighting for her life. When Benjamin wakes in hospital he finds the police waiting. He has been dragged into a nightmare from which he cannot escape.
Meanwhile across the city, an elderly woman is found dead in a derelict apartment block, the sole occupant of a crumbling structure known as Tower Nine. Detective Kyra Abuja, side-lined by colleagues and saddled with a rookie partner, Wei, is sent to sign off what looks like a routine case.
But the woman’s husband has vanished and the building’s owner seems to be concealing more than neglect, while a one-armed refugee with a violent past is nearby, plotting with a powerful American in Hong Kong, the British territory soon to be handed back to China.
Does Tower Nine hold a toxic secret? One worth killing for.
Benjamin and Kyra have become entangled in a geopolitical conspiracy beyond anything they can grasp. They both need answers, and fast.
Fans of gripping political thrillers will be riveted by this adrenaline-charged story of deception, danger, and an audacious attempt to change the course of history.
From author Michael R Smith: ‘A Tower nine stories high’ is Michael’s second novel. It is also set in the 1990s and involves Benjamin Bone, this time in Singapore, where he is dragged into an audacious plan to change the course of history. Michael’s knowledge of that time in Asia blends with his talent for constructing intricate plots and shaping a compelling narrative.
