May 2021: Invenergy and BW LNG will invest in an FSRU for the Energía del Pacífico LNG-to-power project, converting the BW Tatiana LNG carrier. The region’s first FSRU, it will be moored at the Port of Acajutla with a storage capacity of 137,000 cubic metres of LNG. Gas will be sent to a 378MW power plant, from which electricity will go to the Central American Electrical Interconnection System by 2022, meeting 30% of country energy demand.

Jan 2019: Wärtsilä has started work on a 378MW power plant to be fired by liquefied natural gas (LNG). The power plant will be the largest in El Salvador and one of the first LNG plants in Central America feeding electricity to the national grid. A floating LNG import terminal will be built at the same location.
